Overview of KIT molecular targets
CD117 is also called c-Kit, Steel factor receptor and stem cell factor receptor. This tyrosine kinase protein is mainly expressed in hematopoietic progenitor cells, mast cells and acute myeloid leukemia cells (AML). Activation of CD117 promoted the proliferation and differentiation of these cell subtypes. Lack or deficiency of stem cell factors can lead to a decrease in the number of hematopoietic progenitor cells and severe anemia. CD117 is also expressed by melanocytes and plays a role in signal transduction and activation of these cells.
