CD83, also known as HB15, is a transmembrane protein with a molecular weight of 43 kD, which is weakly expressed in activated B cells, activated T cells, activated granulocytes, dendritic cells and Langerhans cells. CD83 is a specific marker of dendritic cells, which is involved in antigen presentation and lymphocyte activation. It can be used to identify and isolate dendritic cells, follicular junction cells and Langerhans cells in blood.
