Warthin-Starry Silver Stain is a stain used by Warthin and Starry in 1920 to show spirochetes, the staining principle is that the mucin on the surface of spirochetes binds to the silver and turns black; this stain has clear contrast and the stained film can be stored for a long time, but the operation is more troublesome and time-consuming.

Leagene Warthin-Starry Silver Stain uses acidic silver nitrate and can show spirochetes, Helicobacter pylori, Coccidioides catarrhalis, Sclerotinia rhinotrophicus, fungi, nerve fibers, and melanin granules.
