This stain is recommended for glycogen staining, which is the most commonly used classical glycogen staining method, and periodate and schiff reagent should be stored at low temperature. The results of the staining are: PAS-positive substances (glycogen or polysaccharides) are red or purplish-red; the nucleus is blue.

Classical glycogen staining can show not only glycogen, but also neutral mucus substances and some acidic substances, as well as cartilage, pituitary gland, fungus, pigment, amyloid, basement membrane.
