Background Information

Colorectal cancer is the second most prevalent cancer in China, with about 560,000 new cases and 250,000 deaths in 2020, seriously threatening the health of the population.

The SDC2 gene is located on the long arm of human chromosome 8 and encodes the Syndecan-2 protein. Syndecan-2 protein has been found to mediate colorectal cancer cell adhesion and other functions, and is closely related to colorectal cancer cell proliferation. Studies have confirmed that, relative to normal colorectal tissues, the SDC2 gene exhibits high levels of methylation in colorectal cancer of different stages and some intestinal progression adenoma tissues, suggesting that it has clinical value in the detection of colorectal cancer and intestinal progression adenomas.

The Expert Consensus on the Early Colorectal Cancer Screening Procedure in China suggests that people aged 50-75 years old should undergo early screening for colorectal cancer. Among them, fecal DNA testing is the screening method recommended by the consensus.

This kit is suitable for the auxiliary diagnosis of patients who are recommended by clinicians to undergo colonoscopy, but are unable to undergo colonoscopy due to poor patient compliance or other medical reasons, and cannot be used as the basis for early diagnosis or confirmation of tumor. Positive results require further colonoscopy; negative results indicate a low likelihood of colorectal cancer and/or progressive adenomas in the subject's body, but do not completely exclude the risk of disease, and colonoscopy should still be recommended when necessary.
