HER2 is positively expressed on the cell membrane. HER2, also known as C-erbB-2 or Her-2/neu, is a proto-oncogene located on the long arm of chromosome 17 (17q21). It is a transmembrane receptor with tyrosine kinase activity and belongs to the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) family. Approximately 25–30% of breast cancers exhibit HER2 gene amplification/overexpression. HER2 overexpression is associated with shorter disease-free survival and overall survival in patients, and is an independent prognostic factor for tumor recurrence and overall survival. HER2-positive patients have a survival period more than half shorter than negative patients. HER2 status can predict tumor patients' response to conventional treatment and serves as a reference for the use of targeted drugs such as Herceptin.
HER2 antibody reagents can specifically bind to HER2 molecular antigens. Immunohistochemistry kits containing HER2 antibody reagents are suitable for targeted treatment screening in breast cancer and gastric cancer.
