LIN28 is an RNA-binding protein that acts as a repressor of the Let-7 tumor suppressor MicroRNA, as well as a post-transcriptional regulator of mRNAs involved in the renewal and development of embryonic stem cells.LIN28 is highly specific in primary spermatogonia/germinomas, embryonal carcinomas, and yolk sac tumors.LIN28 is rarely expressed in extraspecific nongerminative tumors of the gonads and adult LIN28 is rarely expressed in extragonadal non-germ cell tumors and adult testicular tissues.LIN28 is often used in combination with SALL4 to differentiate germ cell tumors from tumors of non-germ cell origin.
