The S100A1 gene, also known as S100 calcium-binding protein A1, is located on human chromosome 1q21.3 region. This gene encodes a protein that belongs to the S100 family of calcium-binding proteins, a family of proteins that contains multiple members, all of which have EF-chiral calcium-binding domains.S100A1 plays a role in a wide variety of biological processes, particularly in the heart and nervous system.
