Background Information

Villin is a gastrointestinal-associated cytoskeletal protein associated with microfilament bundles in brush border microvilli. In normal tissues, Villin is typically expressed only in cells with a brush border, such as gastrointestinal epithelial cells, pancreatic and bile duct epithelial cells, and renal parenchymal epithelial cells (particularly in the proximal tubules). Villin serves as an intestinal-specific reference marker and, when used in combination with CDX2, can be employed in studies of tumors of intestinal epithelial origin versus non-intestinal epithelial tumors. Villin can also function as a reference indicator in research on gastrointestinal neuroendocrine tumors.

Clinical Value

Villin antibody reagents can specifically bind to the Villin molecular antigen. Immunohistochemistry kits containing Villin antibody reagents are suitable for the auxiliary diagnosis of tumors of intestinal epithelial origin, non-intestinal epithelial tumors, and gastrointestinal neuroendocrine tumors.
