This antibody reacts with human GFAP and does not cross-react with other intermediate filament proteins (such as keratin, vimentin, desmin, and neurofilament). Generally, normal and tumorous astrocytes, glial cells, and ependymal cells are positive, while ganglion cells, neurons, fibroblasts, oligodendrocytes, and tumors derived from these cells are negative. GFAP is primarily used in the study of central nervous system tumors such as astrocytomas.
GFAP antibody reagents can specifically bind to GFAP molecular antigens. Immunohistochemistry kits containing GFAP antibody reagents are suitable for the classification of astrocytomas.
