Caveolin-1 (CAV-1) is an integral membrane protein with a molecular weight of 22 kDa, a major structural component of the cellular crypt (caveolae), localized to chromosome 7, and expressed in endothelial cells, vascular smooth muscle cells, fibroblasts, alveolar type I alveolar cells, and adipocytes, which participate in a variety of cellular life processes. Positivity is seen in the vast majority of epithelioid mesotheliomas and Ewing's sarcoma/ PNET, whereas it is occasionally positive in lung adenocarcinomas with a weak and focal pattern. Thus CAV-1 can be used in epithelioid mesothelioma and lung adenocarcinoma.CAV-1 is positive in astrocytomas and generally negative in oligodendrogliomas, which aids in their differentiation.
The Caveolin-1 antibody reagent specifically binds to the Caveolin-1 molecular antigen. The immunohistochemistry kit containing the Caveolin-1 antibody reagent is suitable for the auxiliary diagnosis of epithelioid mesothelioma, lung adenocarcinoma, astrocytoma, and oligodendroglioma.
