In many glomerular diseases, C5b-9 is deposited differently. For example, in membranoproliferative glomerulonephritis, C5b-9 is often seen to be deposited in the glomerular basement membrane and thylakoid region, while in microscopic lesion nephropathy, C5b-9 is usually not deposited. Detection of C5b-9 by immunohistochemistry is useful for the typing and diagnosis of glomerular diseases.
