VEGFR-3 is the endothelial-specific VEGF-C and VEGF-D receptor for lymphatic vessels. In the embryo, VEGFR-3 can initially be expressed in all vasculature, but as the embryo develops, VEGFR-3 expression on blood vessels decreases and is confined to the endothelium of developing lymphatic vessels. In the early embryo, before lymphatic vessels emerge, VEGFR-3 acts on neovascularization; in the adult, activation of VEGFR-3 induces lymphatic vessel neogenesis. Meanwhile, VEGFR-3 mutations can lead to hereditary lymphedema.

VEGFR3 antibody reagents can specifically bind to the VEGFR3 molecular antigen. Immunohistochemistry kits containing VEGFR3 antibody reagents are suitable for the assessment of lymphatic hyperplasia diseases (such as lymphangioma) and tumor lymphatic metastasis (such as breast cancer and melanoma).
