Breast Cancer
PTEN gene plays an important role in maintaining chromosome stability and cell proliferation;
Deletion in breast/glioma/prostate cancer means poor patient prognosis.
Prostate cancer
Tumor suppressor gene, localized at 10q23;
Deletion is significantly associated with progression of a variety of tumors (prostate cancer, glioblastoma, endometrial cancer, renal cancer, ovarian cancer, breast cancer, etc.).
Tumors of the central nervous system
PTEN gene deletion is a common alteration in glioblastomas but uncommon in low-grade astrocytomas.
Salivary gland tumors
PTEN deletion is seen in 40%-50% of salivary gland ductal carcinomas.
