Gene family: CD molecules; V-set domain containing; C2-set domain containing
Full name: CD4 antigen (p55); T-cell surface glycoprotein CD4
Overview of CD4 molecular targets
CD4, also known as T4, is a 55 kD single-chain type I transmembrane glycoprotein expressed on most thymocytes, T-cell subsets, and monocytes/macrophages.CD4, a member of the immunoglobulin superfamily, recognizes antigens bound to MHC class II molecules and is involved in cell-cell interactions, thymic differentiation, and signaling.CD4 is a major HIV receptor, binding to HIV gp120. CD4 also interacts with IL-16.
