Overview of CD59 molecular target information
Molecular name: CD59 (Complement Membrane Attack Complex Inhibitory Factor)
Gene family: Ly-6 superfamily
Alias: MIRL, IF-5Ag, H19, HRF20, MACIF, P-18
Formerly known as: Protectin
Overview of CD59 molecular targets
Molecular weight is 18 ~25kD, expressed on hematopoietic cell nuclei non-hematopoietic cells.CD59 is an inhibitor of membrane attack complex, so it is also known as membrane attack complex inhibitor, which prevents the polymerization of C9 and the generation of membrane attack complex C5b-9, so that the cells do not undergo complement-mediated cytolysis.CD59 is a GPI-anchoring molecule, and also a signaling molecule for the activation of T-lymphocytes.
In clinical practice, CD59 is used as a diagnostic indicator of PNH along with CD55, which is more sensitive, or alone for PNH diagnosis.
