CD19 is expressed in both normal and malignant B-lymphocytes and is regarded as one of the more reliable surface markers covering a longer phase in B-cell development. In normal lymphoid tissues, CD19 is expressed in B cells of germinal centers and follicular dendritic cells, condylomata, and dendritic macrophages in the interfollicular T-cell zone, with essentially the same staining pattern as that of CD20 and CD22, but, in contrast to CD20, CD19 is also expressed in pre-B cells. In addition, CD19 was detected in plasma cells obtained from human tissue isolates by flow cytometry. Generally speaking CD19 is expressed in B-lymphoblastic tumors, which include B-lymphoblastic lymphoma, small lymphocytic lymphoma, condylomatous lymphoma, follicular lymphoma, Burkitt's lymphoma, marginal zone lymphoma, diffuse large B-cell lymphoma, T-cell enriched B-cell lymphoma, lymphoblastic lymphoma, and hairy cell lymphoma, but at a lower level of expression than in normal tissues, plasma cell lymphomas and T-cell lymphomas are usually not expressed. A recent study by Masir et al. showed that CD19 is absent in B-cell lymphomas, with 14% of diffuse large B-cell lymphomas, 30% of T-cell-rich B-cell lymphomas, 75% of post-transplantation B-cell hyperplasia, and in R-S cells of classical Hodgkin's lymphomas.
CD19 Antibody Reagent binds specifically to the CD19 molecular antigen. Immunohistochemistry kits containing CD19 Antibody Reagent are suitable for the precise diagnosis of B-lymphoblastic lymphoma.
