Overview of CD42a molecular target information

Molecular name: Platelet Glycoprotein IX (GPIX)

Gene family: Leucine-rich repeat sequence (LRR) receptor family

Alias: GP IX, CD42a-GP (commonly used in clinical assays)

Formerly known as: subunit of the GPIb-IX-V receptor complex

An overview of the molecular targets of CD42a

Molecular weight is 17 to 22 kD and is expressed on platelets and megakaryocytes. It belongs to the PTK family, and its ligands and related molecules are: vWF, thrombin and snake venom proteins.

CD42a complexes with GPⅠbα/Ⅸ, i.e., CD42b/CD42a, and with CD42c (GPⅠbβ) and CD42b to form the complexes CD42c/CD42a and CD42a/CD42b, respectively. These complexes are the primary receptors for vWF directed against platelets, and are implicated in vascular endothelial cell adhesion to platelets, especially platelet-to-thrombin Adhesion.

Reduced expression of CD42a on platelets in patients with Bernard-Soulier (hereditary GP Ib alpha/Ⅸ deficiency) and positive expression of CD42a on platelets in patients with pro-macrocytic/megakaryocytic leukemia cells (acute myeloid leukemia type M7) are clinically used in Bernard-Soulier's disease (hereditary GP Ib alpha/Ⅸ deficiency) , immunophenotyping and diagnosis of progenitor megakaryocyte/megakaryocytic leukemia cells (acute myeloid leukemia type M7).
